About the Film

The Smog of the Sea chronicles a 1-week journey through the remote waters of the Sargasso Sea. Marine scientist Marcus Eriksen invited onboard an unusual crew to help him study the sea: renowned surfers Keith & Dan Malloy, musician Jack Johnson, spearfisher woman Kimi Werner, and bodysurfer Mark Cunningham become citizen scientists on a mission to assess the fate of plastics in the world’s oceans. The Event

This is going to be a one of kind night for Surfrider Chicago and a great party! We will be showing a trailing for Pat Noyes' new surfing film Southend, followed by our feature presentation of Smof of the Sea.

Registration is REQUIRED before event, as space is limited. Your registration includes:

  • Entry into Event
  • 1 Raffle Ticket (additional available for purchase at the event)
  • 1 Drink Ticket (full bar available)


The Space

Bottle Rocket is apart of Emporium Barcade Logan Square's popup event space. Bottle Rocket is a homage to the great Chicago block party, this popup features games in the “yard,” a charcoal BBQ DJ booth, interior power lines (complete with shoes), and when you check out expect a parking ticket.

We will be offering Chicago style hotdogs and other goodies along with a full bar and plenty of seating to hangout.


The Raffle

If you've been to any of our other events with raffles, we try to stock it with awesome products and goods. This event is no different. We are still acquiring items, but you'll want to buy extra raffle tickets. The raffle will take place after the screening and you must be present to win.
